Summary:
‘Marriage’ enables the human beings to satisfy their natural desire in a legitimate way, where, pornography creates illusions and leaves a crack on ‘Marriage’. Easy access to the world of the internet has made huge progress in different sectors, but along with this, we are heading towards an anarchic society with broken families. Our study will reveal the condition of pornography addiction and its impact on a marital relationship. This cross-sectional study will be conducted in the Psychiatry and Psychotherapy outpatient department of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Dhaka for six months. A formal ethical clearance will be sought from the Institutional review borad (IRB) of NIMH. Married couple attending in the aforementioned department will be approached. A total of 430 married men and women age ranging from 18-60 years and having regular sexual intercourse will be included. Informed written consent will be ensured. A semi-structured questionnaire will be used to interview the patients covering the sociodemographic characteristics, pornography use (e.g., source of pornography, duration, partner watching pornography, etc.), and current status of quality of conjugal life. Pornographic addiction will be assessed by ‘The Problematic Pornography Consumption Scale -6”1 and quality of the sexual relationship, satisfaction with sexual life, and social life will be estimated by the ‘Dyadic Adjustment Scale’.2 Both tools are well recognized to measure the addiction and quality of conjugal life. Two trained data collectors will be assigned to interview the subjects. Both descriptive and inferential statistics will be used for data analysis. The analysis will be performed by SPSS 25. Collected data will be systematically described and summarized by using both descriptive and/or inferential statistics. Analyses will be performed with the statistical program Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25.0. In all cases, a p value of ≤.05 was considered statistically significant. The results will be presented in tables, graphs and charts. The study will conform to the guidance of the current Declaration of Helsinki.
